Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you have never been before. You might feel nervous, unsure what to say, or even wonder if your problems are “big enough.” That is completely normal.

At Lever Counselling, your first counselling session is a safe, supportive space to begin wherever you are. There is no pressure to have it all figured out. We meet you with care, curiosity, and compassion.

What happens in your first session?

Your first session is 90 minutes long. This extra time gives us space to slow down, get to know each other, and explore what has brought you here.

You will be invited to talk about:

  • What you are experiencing right now

  • What has been feeling difficult or overwhelming

  • What you hope to get from counselling

  • Any questions or concerns you may have

This is not a clinical interview or a quick fix. It is a genuine conversation where you are encouraged to speak freely, at your own pace.

You do not have to share everything at once

You are in control of how much you share. There is no pressure to open up about anything you are not ready to talk about. Some clients speak a lot in the first session. Others take time to build trust. Both are completely okay.

Our role is to listen without judgement and to help you begin making sense of what you are going through.

How we support you from the start

We begin tailoring support right away. You may leave the first session feeling lighter, clearer, or simply relieved to have spoken out loud what you have been carrying. Even one session can begin to shift something inside.

Over time, we will continue working together to explore patterns, strengthen your coping tools, and build the insight and confidence you need to move forward.

You are not expected to be “ready” — just willing

You do not need to know exactly what to say. You do not need to feel strong. You only need to show up, and we will take it from there.

Counselling is not about being fixed. It is about being supported. If you are ready to take that first step, we are here to walk with you.
